The law practiced in Lewisburg today has roots that run back across the Atlantic, and the firm keeps faith with both.
West Virginia carries forward the common law of England. Under West Virginia Code § 2-1-1, it continues in force except where the Constitution or the Legislature has altered it. Centuries of English precedent still shape how land is held and estates are settled here.
For England, the oak has long stood for strength and constancy, the “heart of oak” of song and ship. The firm took it as its emblem: deep roots, patient growth, and shelter for those who come to it.
Lewisburg was chartered by the Virginia General Assembly in 1782 and became part of West Virginia at statehood in 1863. Its brick and stone streets keep the character of an older age, and the firm is proud to call Washington Street home.
From its home in Greenbrier County, the firm serves clients throughout southern and central West Virginia, and is also admitted in Ohio.
